Daniel 11:31-32 (KJV)
31 And arms shall stand on his part, and they shall pollute the sanctuary of strength, and shall take away the daily sacrifice, and they shall place the abomination that maketh desolate.
32 And such as do wickedly against the covenant shall he corrupt by flatteries: but the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits.
This part of Daniel’s prophesy (circa 530 B.C.) is written in reference to Antiochus IV Epiphanes and his detrimental influence on the Jews and was fulfilled around 168 B.C. Antiochus hated the Jews and their exclusive culture and religion, as he thought that the Greek culture and religion was superior to any other. He marched on Jerusalem and offered a pig (unclean) on the altar, stopped the daily sacrifices and set up a statue of Zeus (the abominate that maketh desolate) in the temple (Zeus was the Greek King of gods – the equivalent to the Roman’s Jupiter). Many Jews became “apostate” and followed Antiochus because of his “flatteries.” The Hebrew word for flatteries is only used here and means “smoothness.”
Antiochus had used smooth words to persuade these Jews of the superiority of the Greeks and he was favorable to them. However, as usual, God had a remnant that refused to forsake the way of Truth – they KNEW their God!!! Those that know their God will do exploits, literally in the Hebrew this meant they “will do.” The remnant actually used guerilla warfare against Antiochus and eventually wore him down until he retreated and left. The Temple was cleansed and restored.
The parallel to today is clear. The narratives in the world today, even the Church world, have created a view that supposes a superior world view than that of the Word of God. It now calls evil good and good evil, darkness light and light darkness (Isaiah 5:20). We now say that sin is ok because we’re under grace. That perversion is to be celebrated, because love is the most important thing. These cultural influences have wreaked havoc on the holiness and purity of the Church.
Yet, there is a remnant!! There are many that KNOW their God and ACT on His Word!! This remnant MUST stand strong against this onslaught until the enemy retreats and the Church arises to the Glory God called her to!!! We must act on the truth even if it seems as though we’re the only ones standing our ground. Remember, God told Elijah that He had reserved 7,000 that had not bowed their knee to Bail!!!! We will weather the storm and see the Church cleansed and restored, because there is a remnant!!!
